Objective:

The Edmond J. Safra Fellowship in Movement Disorders aims to grow the global base of movement disorder specialists, neurologists with additional training in Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, by training movement disorder clinician-researchers who can provide expert care and lead scientific advances.

As the demand for movement disorder specialists increases, not enough neurologists are receiving vital training in Parkinson’s and related conditions. To address this need, The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF), in collaboration with longtime partner the Edmond J. Safra Foundation, launched the Edmond J. Safra Fellowship in Movement Disorders. The program annually funds academic centers to train a new movement disorder clinician-researcher over a two-year period and is growing an international, collaborative network of next-generation leaders in Parkinson’s research and care. Eligibility

The program grants funding directly to academic centers, which then must identify and train a new movement disorder clinician-researcher over a two-year period. Grant support cannot be used for a fellow already enrolled or selected. These funds may cover the fellow’s stipend, benefits and travel allowance as well as coursework, conferences, and other relevant educational and training opportunities. No indirect costs may be claimed for this award.

The Edmond J. Safra Fellowship in Movement Disorders is open to academic centers worldwide. Previously awarded centers may apply, with the exception of those funded in the most recent round and those currently training an Edmond J. Safra Fellow. History

Since its introduction in 2014, the Edmond J. Safra Fellowship in Movement Disorders has annually funded five international academic medical centers to each train a new movement disorder clinician-researcher over two years. Thanks to increased support from the Edmond J. Safra Foundation, MJFF expanded annual funding to 10 centers beginning with the Class of 2025. Applicant Q&A
