The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Eugene Washington Engagement Award Program intends to release a PCORI Funding Announcement (PFA) in August 2026, seeking to fund projects that enable small organizations and their communities to build capacity and skills to engage in the patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER) process.

The Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Award Program supports projects that encourage active, meaningful involvement of patients, families, caregivers and the broader healthcare community as integral members of the patient-centered CER enterprise. (While previous funding announcements used “PCOR/CER,” all applications should now use “patient-centered CER.”) The Engagement Award Program does not fund research studies.

This preannouncement is provided to allow potential applicants additional time to develop responsive, high-quality submissions.

The Engagement Award: Building Capacity for Small Organizations to Engage in Patient-Centered CER funding opportunity will support two-year projects that help small organizations and their communities build capacity and skills to take part in the patient-centered CER process.

The projects will leverage each awardee organization’s unique perspectives and experiences to build the knowledge, competencies and abilities of the organization and its community to be meaningful partners with researchers throughout all phases of the patient-centered CER process.

In addition to carrying out their proposed project, awardees will be required to actively participate in a learning network throughout the project period. The learning network will provide an opportunity for awardees to receive technical…
