The ASH Careers in Hematology Advancement Mentorship Program (CHAMP) is a unique, year-long opportunity for current first or second-year pediatric and adult hematology/oncology fellows with interests in clinical careers in classical and malignant hematology to be matched with an external mentor. Through this program, which consists of virtual and in-person components, trainees will be able to ensure that they have the guidance to pursue careers in hematology, especially for those training at institutions where robust hematology mentorship may not be available. Background

CHAMP was developed in response to published data citing the importance of mentorship in career development in academic medicine. The goal of this unique, year-long opportunity for current first- or second-year pediatric and adult hematology/oncology fellows is to address the lack of mentorship in classical and malignant hematology through external mentorship.

CHAMP includes two separate programs: CHAMP-Classical Hematology

Program Components

The CHAMP-Classical Hematology program includes an in-person retreat at ASH Headquarters in Washington, D.C., and an in-person meet-up at the ASH annual meeting. These activities help participants navigate their hematology careers and strengthen their relationships with peers and mentors.

Program Components

The CHAMP-Malignant Hematology program consists of mentor-mentee matching based on common career interest and goals, as well as an in-person retreat at ASH Headquarters in Washington, D.C., and an in-person meet-up at the ASH annual meeting. These activities help participants navigate their hematology careers and strengthen their relationships with peers and mentors.

Applications for the 2026 CHAMP-Malignant Hematology are now closed. Applications for the 2027 program will open in Summer 2026.

You are eligible to apply if you meet both of the following requirements: You are an ASH Associate Member or FHF Member in good standing at the time of the application You are in your first or second-year of hematology/oncology fellowship training at accredited programs in the United States as of June 5, 2026

ASH works to ensure a diverse applicant pool and participating cohort in the CHAMP program. This includes having representation of the diverse perspectives, talents and experiences of individuals, including but not limited to, those from centers without robust hematology training and individuals from communities underrepresented in hematology. Mentee Application Process

The ASH Careers in Hematology Advancement Mentorship Program application, as well as supporting documents outlined below, must be submitted through ASH's online awards portal.
