Description

To develop a program within the Adult Protective Services provider network of mentoring that includes an internship program for college students to develop their skillset and knowledge for potential permanent employment with their agency after college graduation. This intervention program addresses the consistent staffing issues experienced within the network agencies, and will aid in development of programs to prevent elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation, including adult protective services programs. Through this program, ACL hopes to demonstrate how existing research can be used to craft new, useful programs to address elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation and improve and enhance adult protective services programming.

Seeking to promote employment within the Adult Protective Services program by reimbursing students and providers for internships. Grants will be issued for each approved applicant to the program to the provider agency in one lump sum including the intern stipend and mentorship grant. Mentorship grants will also be offered for each intern. Rates of funding outlined below: Funding Description Funding Amount Mentorship Grant -Per intern/Per Semester $10,000.00 Intern Stipend, One Semester $5,000.00 Intern Stipend, Two Semesters $10,000.00 Please note that funds for both the mentorship grant and intern stipend will be received in one payment. The agency will be required to provide the funds to the intern via payroll. *Interns must log a minimum of 160 hours per semester (Fall 2024 and Spring 2025) and 120 hour per semester (Summer 2025). Reporting of cumulative number of hours will be required at each reporting deadline.

The APS Pathways Internship Program will begin in the Fall 2024 academic semester with funding allowability beginning on 09/01/2024. Interns do not need to start in the fall semester to be considered. Spring 2025, one semester, interns will also be allowed with a solicitation for applications being offered in winter 2024. Summer 2025 interns will be solicited in Spring 2025. Soliciting and applying for internship funding may begin at any time. Please note that partial semester interns will not be eligible for funding. The fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semester will be treated as a pilot project and feedback will be solicited from the provider agency and intern throughout this process.
